Costa Rica

Tucked into the misty highlands of southern Costa Rica, the Zona de Los Santos is a region of quiet beauty and deep agricultural roots. Located in the province of San José, this mountainous area includes the counties of Tarrazú, Dota, and León Cortés Castro, together forming one of the most picturesque and fertile regions in the country. Rolling green hills, patchwork farms, and winding mountain roads connect small towns like San Pablo and San Marcos, where daily life moves at a peaceful, steady pace. Unlike many parts of Costa Rica, this area sees very little tourism. What it offers instead is authenticity through strong community ties, breathtaking natural scenery, and a culture shaped by generations of farming and land stewardship.

This region is known for producing some of the finest coffee in the world, grown on steep mountain slopes with care and pride. But there’s more here than coffee. Farmers are beginning to shift away from traditional monocultures, experimenting with diverse crops like strawberries, apples, sugar cane, citrus, and golden berries. Many are embracing more sustainable, regenerative practices that honor the land while supporting their families. Life in the Zona de Los Santos is grounded in hard work, connection to the land, and a growing movement toward a healthier future for both people and the planet.
